After years of guitar playing in various bands Mac Mavis had a desire to create something new and play all the instruments himself. In the beginning of 1995 he released his first single "Mac´E".
In 1996 he went to split a studio with some other musicians and they made the collective CD album "Sörkkä Sonic/Flipping Bixies", a compilation of the earliest "psychedelic" techno tracks made in Finland. In 1997 Mac Mavis signed with Exogenic Records. His debut album, released in 1998, was described as “reminiscent of Tangerine Dreams finer moments”. The album recived considerable airplay abroad and on finnish national radio.
Mac Mavis describes the making of the second album, "I did the tracks on the album in different studios, only half of it in my current place. It is very much analog recording all the way.
I played all the keyboards to my drum machine's sequencer, then recorded it on a tape and played some live overdubs. You cannot find any computer edits on the "Gatefinder". I used an analog tape and DAT to store the music.".
