Details

Lumukanda have oftimes been dubbed 'Pioneers of Electronica by over-exuberant reviewers, but this duo from Oz strenuously deny any such claims to fame, or for that matter, to notoriety. On the other hand, they aren't afraid to describe their musik as, 'seminal'. Their origins are certainly shrouded in obscurity; their reputation for obfuscation well founded. After a long and successful partnership with Psy Harmonics, also operating out of Melbourne, the duo have for now opted to sign to a European based label, Karelia records.'That Was Zen, This Is Tao' describes a bold new direction for thise act, as they strike out into territory unknown, both to themselves, and to their small but fanatical audience alike. Indeed, for many, this new album represents a fresh direction for electronica, a badly needed one in a scene jaded and cynical after the pseudo-psychedelic excesses of recent years. This release begins with something of a bang, with a track appropriately named, 'Shock Tactics', but then settles down to some smooth grooves which cover a lot of sonic territory, until reaching the tranceathonic climax of 'Creeper'. Also of particular interest is 'Surf Gods', a weird techno-surf guitar hybrid or the political "Terra Nullius".
