The project was initially developed with the conviction that the c.d. as an object has no future unless it becomes an art form, including image and design. Smooth One consistently desired to link more and more intimately music and images. In the black box “industrial welfare”, you will find an audio c.d. including 14 tracks composed by Smooth One, on computers and machines. The base guitarist Mourad Baali, and turntablist d.j.Hak (and the voice of French famous novelist Colette on “le jardin d’acclimatation”) also collaborated. Also included is a DVD of the film “ Dock Hotel” directed by the photographer and video maker Catherine Hebert, with original music by Smooth One.Then a booklet of photography by Catherine Hebert completes the pack. INDUSTRIAL WELFARE: ALBUM (14 tracks, 57min) Unconvinced by the immutable format of song, Smooth One delivers with “Industrial Welfare “music which is essentially modal based on harmonics, tones and rhythmic juxtapositions. Mixed with the jazz and hip-hop influence of his early days are repetitive music, ambient, hints of dub and post rock. Ultimately, Industrial Welfare is an album to be classed alone. It is both electronic and acoustic while exploring today’s technology, searching for maximum emotion. Emotion is the main driving force in this c.d. Elegant and ultra modern, swinging form violent to contemplative but above all poetic.
