Tokyo-based party organisers Zodiac have had a rapidly growing reputation for quality, thanks to the hard work of found DJ Kemal. Originally from Turkey, DJ Kemal spent the 1990s travelling around the world DJing in place such as South Africa, Israel and Thailand. Since October 2001, however, he has been based in Tokyo, where he has been using his international connections to bring the freshest sounds available to Japan. The success of his Zodiac parties have resulted in a new force in Japanese parties, and DJ Kemal has become a resident DJ at the famous Arcadia parties.
This compilation is the first release for Zodiac Records, the label built to represent the Zodiac sound. We have here a wide range of music, kicking off with the well-known full-on Israeli sounds of Dynamic, Melicia and Beat Hackers, alongside the fresher Israeli producers Synthex and Biotex. We progress deeper into the more progressive-edge tunes from Acupunture, the side project from Tarsis’ Sebastian Kruger, also well known for his work as Kruger and Coyle, and then are hit with another psychedelic stomper from Ambivalent Records’ founders Deviant Species. The compilation winds down with several tracks from Safi Connection, now a world-respected artists, flowing around a new track from DJ Naveen, the German producer well known for his previous work with Morphem.
