Nick Doof is one of the pioneering names behind the psy trance sound along with Man With No Name, Hallucinogen and Juno Reactor. Anthemic trancefloor classics like "Gift Of The Gods" (NovaMute), 'Let's Turn On' (TIP) and 'Mars Needs Women' (TIP) made him an international name and a favourite with Derrick May, Danny Rampling, Paul Oakenfold and Tsuyoshi. His first album, 'Let's Turn On' (deleted until re-released by Twisted Records) sold in excess of 10,000 and gained a lot of attention from the music press, radio DJ's and MTV (for the video for "Mars Needs Women").
He is also renowned for his excellent, slightly darker releases under the name Citizen Caned with Benji Vaughan aka Prometheus. He has played all across the world - from Mexico and Brazil to Japan and New York. His outstanding closing sets at the Boom festival (to 10,000 people) and in Ibiza for September's outdoor full moon party have secured Nicks' place as one the best and most sought after late morning DJ's in the world. It's About Time is a sign of the progression he has made as an artist and producer. With a wider scope of sounds, more subtlety and attention to detail, he has broken out of the trance-dance straightjacket into lusher, more melodic rhythmic soundscapes.
This album covers many different styles - from full on trance mayhem like "Home on the Strange" to Ibiza style sunset house, deep bass driven dubs such as "Sk.2K" to blissful ambient funk like "Yesterday's Future" (remixed by the Underwolves). His dubbier tracks have found favour amongst the new breed of back room DJ's - Pathaan of Stoned Asia caned "Star above Parvati (Bhijli Mahadev Mix) when on tour with David Bowie.
It's About Time is definitely a different tempo from the last album but there is no real change in direction - Doof's music is still characterised by his love of melody, amazing rhythmic fluidity, spatial awareness and a yearning for the infinite.
